To my brother Ludari,
Life in the edubba is strange and troubling. The Lamassu, and its ummias, lecture us on the laws of science and technology daily, that we may better build war machines to fight the Udug. And yet, nobody seems willing to explain how such laws came to be. The Lamassu itself is clearly a machine, yet will not speak of who built it. The priests say it comes from the gods. If people can build machines, and the Lamassu is a machine, what is to say that the gods are not just people?
I have been thinking of this, brother, and I am troubled. How far does the lie extend? The heavens, the abyss, the garden of the gods, are they real? Why does no one question?
How is life at home? I trust you have enough silver?
It is stupid for me to ask, but I suppose mother has still not returned? Has she no love for her own children?
Well-being to you,
Elutil
